As the story broke today that Arsenal were on the verge of signing Auxerre’s Yaya Sanogo, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the club are indeed in advanced talks with the Ligue 1 side to sign the player.
Speaking at a press conference this morning, Wenger said
It is in advanced stages but it is not done.
Sanogo is out of contract this summer meaning that Arsenal could land the player on a free, a price we all know Arsene loves.
Scoring prolifically at every level he has played at, the 20 year old missed most of 2012 with a groin problem which Arsenal will surely hope is behind him.
It is unlike Wenger to confirm deals or even discussions about signing players before the deal is done so you would have to think that the club are very confident of making Sanogo the first player to arrive at Arsenal this summer.
Let’s hope he’s not the last.
